Natsu x Reader:

Will He Ask Me?

“C’mon, _________! Don’t kid yourself, he is so going to ask you,” Lucy giggled, poking you in the leg with one of her keys. You rolled your eyes, all the while smiling as you grabbed the golden celestial material from her grasp.

Fiddling with it in your fingers, you asked, “Which one is this?”

“Cancer,” She answered too quickly, plucking it back. She held it to the side of her forehead as to get back to her original point, “But really. He’s bound to ask. How could he not?”

You clicked your tongue, unsure of the certainty in Lucy’s argument and eyed the blue cat beside you guys for a change. He was sitting on the table along with the two of you, devouring away at some fish you brought as a present. Flicking the feline in the forehead to get his attention, you questioned, “What about it, Happy? Has Natsu said anything to you?”

“MMM?! What,” Happy gave a dazed look before gulping down his last bite and standing up for a better conversation, “What’s this about Nastu?”

“Do you think he’ll ask ________ to go with him to the fireworks tonight or not?” Lucy repeated, crossing her arms as if to guard her point.

Leaning down to the cat, you gave him a hopeful look. “Has he said anything about asking me?” You inquired, trying to hide the desperation in your voice. It was just about killing you that you didn’t know what Natsu was thinking, and you were going to suffer even more if you found out he was taking someone else.

“Aye,” Happy grinned, beaming at the girls. Your eyes widened and a crooked smile tugged at your lips, with Lucy right beside you giving you an ‘i-told-you-so-look’, “To Lucy’s question that is. But no, he hasn’t said anything to me about asking you, _______.”

Your heart dropped out of your chest, through your stomach and crashed into the floorboards of the guild. All your mind could manage was TV snow and your words jumbled and stuttered together.

“Happy!” Lucy scolded, her hand flying to your leg for comfort, “How could you do that?!”

“All I said was that he hadn’t said anything to me,” Happy defended, sitting back down and picking up his fish, “But, I do think he’s going to ask ________ tonight. Natsu just doesn't talk to me about that kind of stuff.”

Losing Happy to his fish again, you glared at the cat, almost feeling peeved enough to whisk the fish right out of his furry mouth and throw it off the nearest cliff... But you could never do that. Happy’s blunt honesty is what made him so special. Besides, it’s not like he knew the answer you were looking for; it wasn’t his fault.

Sighing, you picked yourself off the table and started to make your way to the bar where Mirajane was chatting up with a few other members of Fairy Tail. You heard Lucy call out behind you, “What are you doing? We only have a couple of hours before the fireworks show... Aren’t you going to find Natsu?”

“He’s bound to ask me, isn’t he, Lucy?” You mumbled her own words before shuffling over to an empty seat. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Mirajane give Lucy a worried look as she cautiously poured you something to calm you down. Feeling it was best not to say anything, she pushed the glass towards you with reassurement.

You gave the glass a blank stare, then laid your head on the counter and closed your eyes. The words, ‘He’s bound to ask you’ repeated in your ears until you found yourself asleep.

“I’m telling you, it’s not completely gone! The town was only a little on fire,” Came the familiar voice. You’re eyes fluttered open as the boy continued on, “It’s not like they can’t rebuild it or anything.”

“Shut up, you know you could’ve been more careful when you were fighting,” Gray’s voice replied, followed by something that sounded strikingly similar to a slap on the back of someone’s head.

“HEY! ARE YOU TRYING TO-” Natsu raised his fist, fire flaming in his eyes only to be stopped by a directed cough from Mirajane. You raised your head off the counter and looked her in the eyes, realizing that she was trying to get Natsu over to you. Giving her a worried, almost anxious glance, your focus spun back behind you to Natsu who was walking over in a rather stiff way. It may have been the fact Gray was getting him all worked up, but there was a tint of pink in his cheeks as he sat beside you.

Then there was silence. Dead silence. So silent, you could hear Gray trying not to laugh while he walked to the upstairs to give you two some privacy. Mirajane probably would’ve too, if only it wasn’t this damn awkward!

She cleared her throat before breaking the quiet. “So, Natsu,” She smiled in his direction, “The fireworks are about to start.”

“Ah... Yeah...” The dragon slayer shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Staring at the wood counter with your heart pounding in your stomach, you dared to catch a glimpse of the fluffy haired boy beside you. He seemed just about as nervous as you, honestly. ‘Oh c’mon... Just ask me already!’ you screamed in your head.

Natsu coughed uncomfortably and stuttered, “So, __________, you’re going to be there right?”

Your head shot up and it took a moment before you found something to answer with. “Uh... Well I was sort of hoping... Someone would ask me... Instead of, you know, just going on my own.” Your eyes deadpanned into Natsu’s pink ones as you hinted with all your might. ‘Catch a drift, Dragonslayer’ you tried to send a telepathic message.

“Oh... Did... Someone ask you?” Natsu’s voice became a little shaky with his words as they came out.

Biting your lip to keep from smiling, you replied, “No, not yet.” Mirajane gave a small smirk before turning into another room behind the bar and closing the door after her, to leave you two to it.

This was it! You felt so relieved; he was finally asking you! Lucy and Happy were right! Just as you were about to get up and hug Natsu, even with your foot on the floor, he said, “Oh, that’s a shame. I was hoping to meet you there.”

Your entire body froze. So much so that you didn’t even look at his face when you whispered, “Wh... What?”

“Hmm?” He asked, sipping at your drink that Mirajane had given you hours ago, “I said that’s a shame. You’re not going unless someone asked you, right? And no one did, so I guess I’ll have to catch you there next time. They should be starting soon, so see you later __________!” With a signature Natsu grin and a wave, the fairy tail idiot ran out the guild doors without you.

Just as your world was crashing down, you swear you could’ve heard a fist punch the door to the room Mirajane was in with a scream, “Natsu, you clueless idiot!”

Before the guild doors shut, your mouth seemed to blurt out, “Oh yeah?! Well, Gray is taking me so... So yeah!”

SLAM!!

There went the double doors... And a little screech from Gray upstairs, “What?! When did this happen?!”

You felt your legs give out under you and you collapsed on the floor almost in tears. “Natsu, you’re so stupid,” You sniffled, wiping the corners of your eyes with your palms. But despite your efforts, you ended up crying anyway.

Sooner or later, both Gray and Mirajane helped you up to the top balcony of the guild, where you watched the fireworks by yourself.... and one or two boxes of tissues.

Sneezing into one and shooting major snot everywhere, you looked up at the bright colours the crowd was amazed by. Grimacing and wiping the remains off your nose, you took a shaky deep breath. “I guess this whole thing was a flop...” You grumbled, throwing the crumpled snot tissue in with the others. “And to think I came all this way to Fiore because I thought he would ask me...”

“Is that what you wanted me to do?” The voice sent chills up your spine as you jumped around with a small (but loud), “AYAHHH?!”

In reply, you saw the guild member laugh until his pink tufts of hair shook. Pursing your lips and gripping the railing behind you, you heard him giggle out an excuse, “Look, __________, if that’s what you wanted, why couldn’t you ask me yourself?”

You turned away from him and looked back at the bursts of fireworks in the sky. Your lip trembled again as you whispered, “That’s not how it goes... The guy is supposed to ask the girl to go somewhere, remember?” You tried to swallow the lump in your throat before adding, “Even if the guy’s oblivious.”

Natsu walked over to you and leaned on the railing. He studied you over for quite a while before saying, “I guess... I wanted to really bad... But everytime I see your face... I don’t know! I just freeze up and the flame in my belly goes everywhere and it even makes me feel kind of gasy... I probably shouldn’t have said that,” You couldn’t help but laugh, which made you feel worlds better, even when Natsu continued, “Look, my point is, I may be some big dragonslayer... But I can’t deal with sweet girls like you... Funny isn’t it? I can beat up tons of bad guys but I can’t ask a cutiepie to see fireworks with me-”

Before you knew it, you were standing on your tiptoes and giving Natsu a kiss on his cheek. It was still warm from him blushing like crazy and your lips were still damp from crying all this time.

Pulling away, you saw the pink haired boy’s priceless reaction. You beamed at him, gushing, “Apology accepted. And before there’s any confusion next time, let’s make plans to go together when I’m in town again.”

“Really?!” Natsu chuckled, his face lighting up and it was radiating heat like you were standing next to a fire. Smiling just as big as the dork next to you, you nodded, only mid nod, Natsu leaned in before you could do anything to stop him (and why would you?). His fingers pulled your chin up to his and he met your lips with his.

It was perfect. The fireworks. You two making up... Turning into more or less making out.... And even the idiot making catcalls down below. Natsu pulled away and practically threw himself off the building when he saw it was Gray cheering you two on. You waved to Lucy with one hand, the other clutching Natsu’s vest to prevent him from killing his team mate. And even Happy flew up to the both of you, smiling as he said, “We told you didn’t we, _________? He was bound to ask you!”

Happy was right in a certain way, but you couldn’t help but agree with him. Natsu may be a clueless idiot, but he was your clueless idiot.
Okay, I get it. I'm a shithead. Why? Well, I said it would only take a couple of days for the next Haru x Reader to come out and I have a lot of it done, but this one just sort of popped out. Fucktons of you guys have been asking for another Natsu story forever so, here you go. The Haru fanfic should hopefully be out soon, I've been busy moving in and out of my house and I'm also off to camp tomorrow for a week (no wifi so I'll try to answer all the comments and such when I'm back). BUT in the meantime, enjoy this little cute diddy. Hope it suits your needs or whatever, ehem, I re read it several times and the last proof read I thought it sounded pretty good so....

Really, I hope you enjoy it, because I really liked writing it, and if you did then please comment or fave, that would be much appreciated. Aaaand if any of you want, I AM willing to write more Natsu x Readers... Even if it took me an eternity to write this one. I'll figure something out I guess :meow:

WARNING! Carry on reading! Or you will die, even if you only looked at the word warning! Once there was a little girl called Clarissa, she was ten-years-old and she lived in a mental hospital, because she killed her mom and her dad. She got so bad she went to kill all the staff in the hospital so the More-government decided that best idea was to get rid of her so they set up a special room to kill her, as humane as possible but it went wrong the machine they were using went wrong. And she sat there in agony for hours until she died. Now every week on the day of her death she returns to the person that reads this letter, on a Monday night at 12:00 a.m. She creeps into your room and kills you slowly, by cutting you and watching you bleed to death. Now send this to ten other pictures on this one site, and she will haunt someone else who doesn't. This isn't fake. apparently, if you copy and paste this to ten comments in the next ten minutes you will have the best day of your life tomorrow. You will either get kissed or asked out, if you break this chain u will see a little dead girl in you
